E Young their Class Father who is now on leave of absence in Germany The following are e are some extracts particularly worthy of oJ quotation AS TO GERMAN GERl CUSTOMS While Germany with a population of over fifty millions is a wonderful country country country coun coun- try the manners and customs of the people strike the American as very strange There are no farms such as we wesee wesee wesee see in America The land is cut up into patches no larger than our our gardens gaiden andr and r no where does one see on a farm a boundary boundary boun dary line The fields are green brown and yellow yellow yellow yel yel- low according to the color of the crops and these with the dense forests and foliage foliage foli foli- age give great diversity to the landscape Absolutely no land runs to waste in Germany Every foot of soil has its grains vegetables and flowers The fields are cultivated by means of oxen and clumsy cows that draw all the heavy loads The farming implements are crude and for this reason the peasants have to work very hard One does not see in a country like this the natural tact and energy that characterize an Ameri Ameri- can j MORE PLEASANT FEATURES The German cities however are very beautiful and they far surpass ours in cleanliness But what makes one enjoy this great country are the art galleries and historic places Since my coming here I have dreamed in the old haunts of Luther Schiller and Goethe and roamed loamed through museums and galleries castles and gar gar- dens HIS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE Before my returning to America I expect expect ex ex- to see much of Europe including Greece and Spain I may also go to Egypt When Then I come home I shall have much to tell you Never before have I been so g gad ad that my lifes life's work is to be bein bein bein in the realm of History SOME FATHERLY ADVICE Now my boys and girls I do not t twant want to burden you with advice You have already begun your you work so g go ahead Try to remember however that natural self an ideal student is his own He is easy in manner and enjoys the best i society and entertainment He loves N Nature Nature Na Na- a- a ture and knows all the good books He Heis is interested in everything loves loves everybody everybody everybody every every- body and has power to master everything to which he turns his attention Try to be sympathetic in your work Let your ideals be high yourself yourself yourself your your- self but be kind and gentle always toward others Learn Leam in your daily study to read the Bible and to profit by its teachings Remember that this is the Book of o all books Do not get discouraged but keep in mind that work with faith in its accomplishment accomplishment accomplishment is the great keynote to all attainment |
