Show Planning Commission Urgsd to Adopt Street Improvements The Cedar City rianning Commission Com-mission has recommended to th: City Council that improvements be undertaken on 400 South j Street from Main Street west, to more adequately handle in-' in-' creased traffic on the strcc Ilea-; Ilea-; vy residential expansion in the southwest section of the city h iv increased traffic on 400 South Street to a point where the street is entirely inadequa'e. Traffic room on the street Is very limited because of a row of utility poles on one side of the street and a deep Irrigation canal ca-nal on 'he other, particularly from Main Street to 300 West Street. The canal continues farther far-ther west but there are not as many utility poles beyond that point. i The commission has recom-! recom-! mended that the city take steps j as soon as possible to place a curb and gutter on the nor'h i side of the street, placing it clos. er to the sidewalk than the present pres-ent canal. This, toge'her with grading that would result, would extend the usable width of the street considerably. The Mountain Sta'es Telephone Tele-phone Company has already indicated in-dicated that the utility poles would be removed late this year, probably in November, as the company's expansion program progresses. If the city could have the curbing completed by the time the poles are removed the traffic congestion problem on the street would be tremendously improved. |
