Show Ground Water Levels Below Average In Iron County Wells Ground water levels In wells In Cedar Valley, Escalante Valley Val-ley and Paragonah were among 11 test wells In the state that showed decreases in the water level during 1958 according to a report from the office of the stite engineer. A total of 15 wells, situated throughout the tate are tested to give general representation for ground-water levels In the area In which each well is located. Four such locations are in Iron County with one well tested In the Escalante Valley, one In Parowan Par-owan Valley and two In Cedar Valley. Although levels were below average av-erage they were, nevertheless, higher thn at the end of the, 1957 wave year, according to Francis T. Mayo, chief water re-1 sources branch. In the 11 wells that had be-1 low-average water levels at the end of the water year, the levels were below average throughout the year. Water levels In these 11 wells continued a downward trend that began four to six years ago. Thlc downward trend is due to Increases In pumping In most areas, but In the Iron CounMy area below-normal recharge has been the principal cause of lower waU.r levels. Only four wells recorded above average water levels at the end of the water year. These wells were located at Clearfield, Og-i Og-i den, Nephi and Ephralm. These wells reflect definite recharge Increases to the aquifer owing to higher than average run-off from the mountain. I I 1 |
