THE LIONS The Escalante Valley Lions en-, en-, tertauied their wives on ladies' night at a banquet given at the school house. The following were puests of the evening: Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stahell of Enterprise, Mr. and Mrs. David Tullis of Newcastle, and Mr. and Mrs. Craig Clark of the valley. Mr. Stahell entertained throughout the banquet wi'h singing, accompanying ac-companying himself on the guitar. gui-tar. Following the banquet an evening eve-ning of dancing was enjoyed to music from Herbert Knell's orchestra or-chestra at Modena. Tony Alberto cooked hambur. gers which with pop was sold at the dance. THE LADIES Oa Thfsday night, Dec. 18. the Escalante Valley Ladies cn-1 tertained their husbands at their ( I annual Christmas party given by the outgoing officers, Elisa Blasi, Francis Piper, Juanita Butler But-ler and Marlene Austin. This party wis held at the' school house with a tree lighted for the occasion. The evening was begun by the singing of Christmas carols with solo sing-1 lng later In the evening by Car-I ma Taylor. The game for the evening was Yatchet. High score for the ladles lad-les was won by Jean Love, wi'h John Smith winning for the men: folks. A special prize was won by Bruno Biasl, and other prizes by Eva Bosshardt and John Mc-Garry. Mc-Garry. Santa was there and created real enthusiasm as he caikd out numbers for those present to receive re-ceive their packages. Refreshments were served In form of delicious cream topped cake and hot punch. THE CUBS As no business was conducted at the Saturday night den rwc-t-Ing on Dec. 21. the Cubs enjvd an evening of Christmas fun a they exchanged gifts and frlcil heir skills at breaking the Mex lean Pinata. Both den mothers, Francis riper ri-per and Thyllls Wood, were p.es ent with den chief Rex Wool and the following Cubs: Den No. 1 Terry Federson, Fteven Ap-plegate, Ap-plegate, Kenny Baze, Tommy An-zalone An-zalone and Danny Wood; Den No. 2. Rocky Tucker. Allen Hunt. David Piper, Glen Nielsen and Lee Scott. P. T. A. The Valley P. T. A. added to the Christmas spirit and fun or the season with the showing of "The LltMest Chris'mas Tree" followed fol-lowed by cartoons. Those present bough tickets and drew numbers num-bers for the Santa Claus decoration decora-tion to help pay for the films. The decoration was won by David Piper. Carma Tnvlor 1M the group In singing Christinas carols. CHURCH ACTIVITY Rev. George Geptakys of Whit-tier, Whit-tier, Calif., conducted a Saturday Evening Service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thayer. Sunday services were held at the school house. At the Sunday morning service on Dec. 22, gifts and candy were distribu'ed by those in charge. Children and parents of the Enterprise Second Ward had a treat at the recreation hall as they attended the program, "Angels of Peace," and received receiv-ed bags of candy and nuts from Santa Claus. The First Ward enjoyed a similar activity on Dec. 23. Sunday afternoon both w&rds Joined In a Christmas Sunday service. HAVE YOU HEARD? Little Joelyn Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Wayne Holt, has been confined to the Iron County Hospital for some time with a serious throat Infection. Upon his return from japan Karl Holland was advanced to Fire Control Technician 3c, He will receive six weeks special training as computer and fire control technician at San Diego. In addition to lights Installed Install-ed In Newcastle, the REA Is Installing In-stalling and furnishing power for a light in front of the Escalante Esca-lante Valley school and one in front of the recrca'lon hall a Modena. These will be kept In repair by other means. The Lions will use the money taken In 'from the sale of deer hides for the purpose of buying ten's to be used by such organizations organ-izations as the poy and Cub Scouts and 4-II clubs. HOME TOR CHRISTMAS Lula Belle and Harold Pittard are at home with the Alber' Schwartz family for the holidays. holi-days. Harold has been stationed at Camp Moffit, San Francisco, while Lula Belle Is attending school at Lancaster, California. Richard Hunt and Rose Ann Moyle have returned home from the BYU. Richard went to Mesa, Arizona, to spend a few days wi'h Russell Hunt, but was back for Christmas. Lucile Hunt and Jack Moyle, Jr., are home from Dixie Col'.ege. Bob Crum is home from Montana Mon-tana until February. I Pfc. John M. McGarry Is home to spend the holidays with his folks until Dec. 28. He Is stationed station-ed at Fort McAr'hur, San Pedro. Karl Holland is home from San Diego for the holidays. John Horsley, father of Mr.?. Neil Bracken, is here to spend a few days. GOING AWAY The following are spending the holidays In California. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Pedersen and family, fam-ily, Tony and Lewis Alberto, Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Biasl and family, the Larry Robinson family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mathews and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Price and Duane. The Bryner Wood family are visiting In Salt Lake City wi'h Mrs. Wood's mother and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ramero will leave this week for Palm Da'O, Calif., to visit with Mrs. Ramero's son, Jerry Hunt and family. From there they will go to Stock-on Stock-on to visit Joe's sister and family. fam-ily. Mrs. Fred Avila. Mr. and Mrs. George Jolley and family have left for Kingston for the holidays. Miss Carma Taylor has gone to Fillmore for the holidays to be with her mother and sister. The Richard Thorley family of Modena have plans o spend the holidays in Oregon with Mrs. Thorley's si3er. The Grant Farnsworth" family have gone to Grand Junction, Colo., to spend the holidays. TRAGEDY FOR CHRISTMAS The home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Wil-son Scott burned to the ground Monday afternoon, Dec. 23. Al-hough Al-hough the home was los most of the furniture was saved. |
