Show Lt. Preston Mitchell Informs Family Of His Condition Mr. and Mrs. John S. Mitchell of this city received a letter on Tuesday from their son, Lt. Pres-ton Pres-ton Mitchell who was seriously wounded in combat action in Korea Ko-rea some time ago. His parents received word of his being wounded on Friday of last week with the communication coming J from the Defense Department, i This message only stated that he had suffered a serious wound and the letter received by Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Tuesday" gave more details. The letter, written for Lt. Mitchell by a hospital attendant stated that he was hit by mortar' I fire while serving at a forward observation post. It went on to assure his parents that he would ' recover alright and that by the time they received the letter he would be in an army hospital in Japan. It also stated that he would probably be home in a couple of rnonths. Lt. Mitchell, whose wife, the former Elma Burton of Rome, Ina., now resides in Salt Lake City, is a member of the 64th Field Artillery Battalion and has been in Korea for several months, much of the time in actual combat. com-bat. He is a former member of the L'tah National Guard and received his officer's training at Fort Knox, Ky. where he received his commission as a second lieu j tenant. He had been promoted to a first lieutenant after combat experience in Korea. |
