Show Redmen - Hurricane Tangle Friday In Vital District Basketball Battle The Cedar high school Red-men Red-men and the Hurricane high school Tigers, turned in impressive impres-sive wins last week end to make the Dixie division basketball race definitely a two team affair and to set the stage for the big battle bat-tle between the two leaders Friday Fri-day night. The "big game" will be played at Hurricane Friday night with Hurricane installed as favorites because of an earlier win over the Redmen in the BAC field-house, field-house, and because of the home floor advantage. The Tigers trimmed the Redmen 59 to 43 on Jan. 25, and are expecting to repeat the victory this week and clinch the district title and a place in the state tournament. However, the Redmen are playing their best ball of the season at the present time and should be in a good position to stage an upset. up-set. Should the Redmen-trip the favored Tigers, it would, put the two teams in a tie for first place, and with Cedar meeting Valley in the fieldhouse the following week and Hurricane meeting the i Cowboys at Kanab the same night, the race would probably end in a tie. In that event a playoff would be necessary to determine first place and the tournament berth. The Redmen.cannot finish lower low-er than second place, even if they go down before the Tigers Friday, and stub their toes on Valley the following week. This means that unless the Redmen can win't first place, the Region Six tournament to decide the third team from this region to enter the state tournament, will be played in the fieldhouse at Cedar City. The second and third place teams in the Dixie and Millard divisions will participate in the play-off tournament. Delta has won the Millard district title, ti-tle, and Millard and Parowan are tied for second with Beavei and Hinckley close behind, and two of these four will be in the playoff. Either Hurricane or Cedar Ce-dar and probably Dixie will enter from this district, although Enterprise Enter-prise still has an outside chance of getting into the meet. To get in Enterprise must tip Valley at Valley and then win over Dixie in a regular game and a play-off. Of course, if Kanab could trip Dixie at St. George tomorrow night, it would be possible for Enterprise to get into the tournament tourna-ment without a play-off. Saturday night the Cedar Red-men Red-men walloped the Enterprise Wolves in the Enterprise gym by a score of 81 to 51, playing their best game of the season. After a close first quarter, 16 to 13, the Redmen jumped ahead and steadily increased the lead although al-though Coach Alma Garrett used every man on the squad. Craig Jones with 20 points, Gordo Sargent with 19 and Gary Mid-dleton Mid-dleton with 18, led the attack but received good support from the remainder pf the squad. Hurricane took the measure of Dixie Friday night, 68 to 51 with Hirschl scoring 26 points and Madsen ringing up 25. The first quarter was close, Hurricane having hav-ing a 19 to 17 edge, and and then Dixie forged into a 32 to 28 lead by half-time. Hurricane pulled back into a 3 point, 52 to 49 lead in the third period and then ran away from the Flyers to win 68 to 51. Kanab won its first game of the season by upsetting favored Valley high by a score of 59 to 53.
