Show ATHLETICS A What Do I Get for My Ha Half f Dollar STUDENTS appointed by the executive committee have been canvassing the University for some days in the interest of the Athletic Athletic Association tion While in inmost inmost inmost most cases they have been successful now and then a curiosity is met with in inthe inthe inthe the shape of a student who ho refuses to ally himself with the Association In every such instance the argument used partakes of the nature of such questions as What good do I get out out of it or What do I get for my fifty 1 cents 0 O you parsimonious selfish sighted short-sighted mortals Did you ever i stop to think how much you can benefit your students fellow by building up an organ organization in which they are interested and in which you should likewise be It is true rue that this is a free country and a man may be just as selfish and do as little for his man fellow-man as is pos pos- sible He may live apart from society entirely if he choose or he may exert all his energies to seeing that he gets gets' two dollars value out of every dollar he spends He may see want and suffering on every hand unmoved see organizations organizations organizations which are trying to do good unable unable unable un un- able to accomplish their purpose for the lack of support and assistance which it itis itis itis is in his power to render He may do doall doall doall all this if he so desires He may even be a student of some institution of learning and still not have learned that there are other people in the world besides besides besides be be- sides himself He may live such a life but as sure as he does he will not havethe havethe have havethe the love of his men fellow-men while he dwells among them and will go down downto to his grave and and almost before the last sod has fallen upon his coffin the world will have forgotten that he ever lived It is j astonishing how much good one person insignificant though he may be can accomplish Often Often just o one e little kind r word is the incentive which makes a aman aman aman man lead an honest life who wanting that word might not be so A pleasant smile may brighten a day that would otherwise be dark and gloomy gloom That you are blessed with more of I the comforts of life than your schoolmate schoolmate schoolmate school school- I mate and have a nice little gymnasium at your home or belong to some other organization whereby you may derive the benefits that such membership brings gives you no excuse for not joining the Athletic Association on the theother theother theother other hand you should under such circumstances circumstances circumstances cir cir- be more willing to help those less fortunate by contributing your share to support an organization which endeavors to benefit them We can all be an aid to each other loved and respected by our students fellow-students happy in the knowledge that we are contributing our mite for the good of others or we can get through life and gain the reputation of never having benefited humanity in the least of being being being be be- ing nothing more than crabbed pesse- pesse bits of selfishness Which course are re you rou going to follow |
