| Show Herman Hugo Haag HERMAN HERMMAN HUGO Huco HAAG was born in Stuttgart Germany October 15 1871 He attended the kindergarten and best elementary schools of Stuttgart until eleven years of age when he emigrated to Utah He was then a strong robust boy About a year after he reached Utah he had a very severe illness from which he never fully recovered H His is first attempts at artistic drawing were made while in bed a sufferer sometimes mes at the point of death But Buthe Buthe Buthe he worked incessantly in spite of pain In want of a model to work from life he placed a mirror before him in be bed and drew his own likeness His first paintings are still preserved and though they were done without an instructor show many admirable points His first portrait was that of his mother He steadily improved and was very highly praised for his marked ability Acting on the ad advice vice of the best Utah artists he studied for two years in Paris meeting with remarkable success After visiting his old home and some of the noted art galleries in Europe he returned Just as he seemed about to reap some of the fruits of his labor his death occurred The funeral services were held at the Twentieth Ward Assembly Hall His body was taken to Payson and buried near hi his mother The amo amount nt of work that he accomplished in the short space of four four years was wonderful Few realize what a refined poetic spirit was imprisoned in i the weak body of the Special Instructor in Art I |
