Show Parowan High Wins League Opener; Meets Delta Friday Parowan, Beaver and Delta high school basketball teams were the first round winners in the Millard division of Region six when play opened last Friday Fri-day night, with Milford. Hinckley Hinck-ley and Millard high schools being be-ing the losers in this round. All the winners played on their home courts, with Parowan winning win-ning from Milford. -55 to 3S in a hard fought game; lieaver lak- j ing Hinckley easily by a 37 to 31 1 score, and Delta trimming Mil- , lard handily 44 to 30. j Beaver took a commanding lead over Hinckley in the opening open-ing period and added to it in the second and third iieriods. then coasted in the final period for an easy win. Delta took a first cjuar- ter lead of 10-3 over Millard and j dominated play all the way for' its win. But Coach Twist Jones' Rams had to fight all the way for their victory over Milford, although al-though they never were behind at any stage of the game. The Rams took an early lead and were ahead 12-9 as the first quarter ended. They were ahead 25 to 21 at half time, and were a little further in lead. 33-27 at the three quarter mark. In the fourth period Milford closed the gap to two points at one time, but the Rams drew away to win 45-38. One man on each team did most of the scoring with John Benson of the Rams and Kent Kinross of the Tigers each getting get-ting 21 points. Benson had eight field goals and five of seven foul tries, and Kinross; got seven goals and 7 for 12 foul tries. Other high scorers in the division were Pearce of Beaver with 20, and Floyd and Winiield of Delta with 13 and 12 points respectively. This Friday the Rams travel to Delta for one of their hardest games of the season. Delta has dominated the division for the past several years and while not rated as strong as in other years, is still very strong with the home floor being to the Rabbit's advantage. ad-vantage. In other games,' Beaver goes to Milford in the big battle of Beaver Bea-ver county, and are favored but will face a battle all the way.
