Show k 1 THE CHRONICLE last week pointed out 1 the necessity of preserving better order on the c campus during football football football foot foot- ball games garnes and it is pleasing to note that during the last week there has been a great improvement in this re re- gard There is a certain class however however however how how- ever that refuses to be persuaded by calm reasoning and against this class more stringent measures should be taken To this class belong those who when the announcement is made that smoking and the use of improper language is strictly prohibited on the grounds declare that smoke if they wanted to and purposely purposely purposely pur pur- leave smoked half-smoked cigars cigar and cigarettes in conspicuous places It Itis is but just to say that these are not U University University Uni Uni- ni- ni students but that they are outsiders outsiders outsiders out out- siders who do not recognize the need of great care in the observance of this rule It is hoped and believed that University students are old enough to know what is s good for them The use of tobacco in all its forms is discouraged discouraged discouraged dis dis- but students may use tobacco c coff off orf the University premises if they wish One reason for the rule being so strictly enforced lies in the fact that most of the pupils of the Deaf Mute j Institution who have free recourse to our campus are too young to safely resist temptation and may form the tobacco habit by trying tring the remains of cigars and cigarettes found about the cam campus pus The CHRONICLE suggests as a practical cal way of enforcing this rule the following following fol fol- lowing Post conspicuously about the r football field notices prohibiting smoking smoking ing and the use of improper language Give the grounds in charge to a committee which shall have authority 0 to eject any person found wilfully disregard disregarding disregarding dis dis- regard regarding ing the rules of the grounds Then let the playing of our students be as vigorous as you wish b but t let it always be gentlemanly and free from roughness and the example we predict will have a timely effect upon tors |
