Show Track Construction Being Pushed For August Race Meet With the date for Cedar City's first race meet In many yean rapidly ra-pidly drawing near the veterans organization or-ganization is rushing work on the new race track as fast as possible, and the committee In charge Issues Is-sues an urgent appeal to every lay-al lay-al citizen, whether a veteran or not to get out to the track and help with some of the construction work. Work days are scheduled for Saturday Satur-day and Sunday and there Is need for at least 100 men to get the work done. Digging of the post holes for the rails on the track started Wednesday, Wednes-day, and because of the generosity of William Wood and his son Alex, the work progressed rapidly. Mr. Wood and his son contributed the use of a power hole driller with an experienced operator. This contribution con-tribution has saved hours of hard hand work. In addition to furnishing furnish-ing the machine the Woods have contributed a two-year old Blooded horse to the veterans for sale to raise funds for the project Setting the posts and completion comple-tion of the railing will continued as rapidly as possible, as will the completion com-pletion of the capping of the track, which Is nearly half done now. Work was also started Wednesday on the laying of cinder blocks on the stables, and it is exDected that the stables will be readly for use well in advance of the race meet. Eighty fire proof stalls will be provided, pro-vided, with a saddle room for each four stables, thus providing the owners with the best stabling facilities facil-ities of any track In the state. Since the grandstand will be a major structure it is doubtful If this can be completed in time for the meet this yenr, but temporary bleachers will be erected to provide seating for at least fifteen hundred hund-red people, and In addition the area around the track will be leveled to that hundreds more can watch the races from their parked automobiles auto-mobiles . As the construction work on the track progresses people are becoming conscious of the fact that the new track will be one of U.o finest racing rac-ing plants in the State of Utah. |
