Show Editor University Chronicle A PROPHET is never without honor save in his own country May I be allowed to use that hackneyed maxim for no other expresses what I want to tell At the Theatre last night I sat by one of the professors of the B. B Y Academy and upon being told that I was attending the U University University niver- niver sity he said I am pleased with the ability shown by your students in keeping keeping keeping keep keep- ing up the paper you do I never have heard any person connected with the University say as much In In the Christmas nu number ber of the CHRONICLE the professor continued there was a story that displayed talent entitling it to publication in a more conspicuous paper Its wit and style were so free and lively that we have no adjective in English to express its worth This too was said by one of the most severe literary critics in Utah Yet how few of the students who every every da day pass the writer many times appreciate the ability shown How few as they finish a dreamy perusal of text-books text and think they will spend a few minute minutes looking looking looking look look- ing over the CHRONICLE considers the merit of any article published in it How many read and praise the works of our national and local authors but never r have any appreciation for our school authors The gentleman spoke of and commented commented com com- on the controversy over oratorical oratorical oratorical ora ora- contests and the masterly r artic articles I es w which h. h IC h appeared d on t the h e su subject subject sub sub- b yet I spoke to a junior student about the matter and he knew nothing of it When I asked in surprise if he did not not- subscribe for the CHRONICLE his answer was No Have we students students students stu stu- dents in the University who have spent from one to five r years years here who have haver so little love so little patriotism and so little of the stuff that men and nd women are made of that they never read nor subscribe for our school paper It is true From five to tenths seven-tenths of the students may know that I mean them and let him whom the coat fits wear it x George H.
