Show It has been suggested to us lib by several everal for whose opinions we have the most profound respect that THE CHRONICLE should concern itself only with what is going on on in the University especially those matters which immediately concern students 1 We e were compelled to take these suggestions into consideration as they seemed somewhat reasonable and especially as they made a profound impression impression impression im im- on our business manager but a host of difficulties presented themselves when we came to act upon them We Ve found that the editors of the various departments departments departments de de- had already worked the local happenings for all there was in them them them-in in fact more than was relished by certain very sensitive gentlemen connected with the University University and and that if we depended entirely upon local happenings we wet t would be com compelled to bribe Mr DanversE Danvers K E I. 1 I to manufacture dynamite enough to blow blowup blowup blowup up the laboratory or do something else equally rash to cause a sensation And no doubt even then our irrepressible local would have been clawing around amono- amono among amonoo o the smoking ing ruins luins capturing every item of interest in order to fire it off to the printer before the rest of us had recovered recovered recovered ered from o our our r fright It was further sug suggested ested that only paragraph paragraph paragraph para para- graph articles be pI in TIlE THE CHRONICLES CHRONICLE'S CHRONICLES CHRONICLE'S CHRONICLEs CHRONICLE's CHRON CHRON- ICLE'S editorial and none but short communications communications communications com com- accepted as students dont don't oj care to go very deep into anything Perhaps this is inferred from the average students student's partiality to short lessons but it itis itis itis is possible that students like most other people possess their share of that native ob obstinacy often called independence which prompts persons to do many things of their own accord they would never do under compulsion The last suggestion as applied to our editorial department is no doubt a good goodone one and we are thankful for it But Bitt still the criticisms we have heard from students students students stud stud- have been on the subject matter showing plainly that our articles have been read notwithstanding their l length We vVe think it likely the University boys and girls do more thinking than they are given credit for and go deeper into things than some people think Therefore we shall make no attempt to fill our columns with meaningless places common-places but shall do our best to make THE TIlE CHRONICLE CHRON CHRON- ICLE worthy of the place it holds hold 1 as as the representative of the interests of University students in Utah and we trust that when we fail to do this the students will fire us out and fill our places with those who can do it |
