Show Summer Recreation Program in Cedar Gets Started With the closing of schools until un-til next fall, the summer recreation rec-reation program got underway in Cedar City this week under the direction of LaVell Chamberlain, summer recreation supervisor. Organized baseball games for the youngsters began this morn-ing morn-ing at 10:30 under the supervision supervis-ion of Mr. Chamberlain. This program will be held dally at the city baseball park, Monday through Friday during the summer. sum-mer. Due to the measles epidemic which has hit Cedar City, dance instruction classes have been delayed. de-layed. The starting date for this activity will be announced later. Instructor will be Miss Maudell Smith, a physical education student stu-dent at the Utah State Agricultural Agricul-tural college, who handled the program here last summer. There will also be supervised playground activities and story telling at the city park adjoining adjoin-ing the swimming pool under the direction of Miss Smith. The public swimming pool was opened for the first time this season on Memorial Day, attracting attract-ing a good-sized crowd. The pool will remain open for the remainder remain-der of the summer under the supervision sup-ervision of Wallace (Red) Osborne. Os-borne. Another phase of the summer recreation program will probably get started June 12, when the Cedar City Softball Assn. is expected ex-pected to begin league play. The games are played at the city softball park at night under the lights. The Junior American Legion Baseball team has already started start-ed practice sessions, and with the great number of boys trying out for the team, it is expected that a small league will be formed as a training program for the Legion Le-gion team in future years. |
