Show Fight Card Slated For Cedar City Race Meet Two boxing cards will be held in Cedar City this week during the running of the third annual Iron Bowl Race Meet, and, according ac-cording to the committee in charge, they will bring together togeth-er some of the best matches held In southern Utah to this date. The bouts will be staged tonight to-night and Saturday night, July 28 and 30, the first and last days of the Cedar City race meet. Tonight, the main bout will bring together Kent Hoyt, popular pop-ular Cedar City boxer, and Ralph Holmes, who comes here from Salt Lake City. It will be a six-rounder six-rounder with Hoyt probably weighing in at 167 and Helms at 1G5. Prior to the main go, there will be two, six-round affairs. One I will feature another popular Cedar City boy, Spike Bybee, who will come up against "Slammin" Johnny George of Beaver. Both boys have appeared here before, and it should be a good fight. Both boys will weigh in at about 148 pounds. In the other six-rounder, Cornell Cor-nell Olds of Cedar City will bat- tie it out with Warren Bushhead, a boy from Moccasin, Arizona. Cornell Is expected to weigh in at 148 while Warren Is expected to hit 152. A four-round curtain raiser will feature Kid Hartley of Cedar City, 152, and Smith Bushhead, also of Moccasin, weighing 160. Saturday night's fights will feature an eight round main bout, with Kid Leon of Salt Lake City meeting up with Louie Gonzales Gon-zales of Mercedes, California and Cedar City. Leon has appeared in Cedar before, and has shown himself to be a capable fighter. From all reports, Gonzales is rated ra-ted fairly good, so this should be an interesting fight. I Leon is expected to weigh in at 142 and Gonzales at 147. The next two fights, which will be six-rounders, will match the winners of Thursday's number num-ber two and 3 fights, and the losers of those same fights. A four-round curtain raiser will match Manuel Singh of Salt Lake City, 154, and Copper Rice, Cedar City, 150. Both fight cards start at 8:30 p. m. and will be held under the light in the B. A. C. stadium. The fights are being sponsored by the Cedar City Elks lodge. ( |
