Show Local Scout Man To Guide River Expedition Two Colorado River Explorer expeditions for the boys of this area, one on May 22 and one on June 5, will be guided by John L. Cross, local Field Scout executive and veteran river guide. Mr. Cross explained this week that registrations are' now open and applications will be accepted at either the Sectional office, 37 West Harding Avenue in Cedar City or at the Council office in Provo, P. O. Box 106. The expeditions, traveling by chartered bus and truck, will leave Cedar City and journey to Richfield, and then through the Capital Reef National Monument I to Hanksville where the first : night will be spent. It is plan- ned that the expeditions will reach the Colorado river at the mouth of North wash on the afternoon af-ternoon of the second day. From this point will begin the 167-mile journey down the famed river of romance which will end at Lee's Ferry, Arizona, five or six days later. Enroute, the young men participating parti-cipating will visit Bert Loper's Hermitage, Ticaboo Canyon, Scout Canyon, Hole-in-the-Rock, Music Temple, Rainbow Natural Bridge, Crossingoft he-Fathers, and many other Interesting and historic spots. Mr. Cross explained that every possible danger is anticipated and that every expedition is organized or-ganized to include the services of a medical doctor. Other safety factors involved in the program are: 11 -man neoprcne landing boats inflated in eight separate compartments, any one of which will maintain the boat afloat; two 21-unit first aid kits, two emergency repair kits; One ring-buoy ring-buoy with a 60-foot line for every boat, and every man will wear a life jacket while on the river. The companionship and comradeship com-radeship of a hig adventure of this type cannot be measured In dollars and cents, according to Mr. Cross. To the young men of this area, the experience of reliving re-living in place and fancy the Hole in the Rock, cannot be compared, com-pared, as it was from our own communities and families that the San Juan pioneers originated. Registration of adults will be limited to two for each boat, or a total of in to each expedition. The cost of the trip will be about 5o0 for each person and will lifter all transportation and the use of the boats and equip ment.
