Show Presbyterians Plan Annual Meeting In Cedar City Next Week (By Twain Tlppetts) Paiiuings from artists all over the United States have been arriving daily at the Cedar High School in readiness for the Annual Cedar City Art Exhibit which begins a week from this coming Sunday, April 13th. Wallace Osborne, chairman of the 'Slanging committee" invited me over to his unveiling room for a preview pre-view of some of the paintings which have arrived. Ila McAfee, New Mexico, Mex-ico, has sent as usual some extremely extreme-ly fine paintings. They are all of scenes and subject matter which we people in Cedar City will en-Joy en-Joy immensely. Pertiaps the outstanding out-standing one is a small painting called "Pastoral", which depicts sheep feeding on a winter range. She also has an effective "Winter Cold", representing white-faced cattle caught In the blast of a winter win-ter blizzard. Lee Clarke Schuyler, also of New Mexico, sends a series of colorful watercolors. One of which immediately immedi-ately caught my eye was a picturesque pictur-esque painting of Junipers on colorful col-orful sandstone hills, very typical of the foothills of this region. From Nebraska came several paintings by a nationally famous painter, Dwlght Kirsch. This year his entries are three watercolors. Most notable, perhaps, is a rather somber still Ufa entitled the "Weed Cutters." The San Diego Art Society has shipped three watercolor paintings by, Helen Blumenscheln. Watercolor painting on linen Is a rather novel departure and the effect Is really amazing. It's a fine example of what originality and a new technique will accomplish. This painting is entitled entitl-ed "Castor Beans". Also here,, are paintings by Lee Parkinson and Eve van Ek. The Associated As-sociated American Artists, Chicago, have notified us they are sending a series of paintings by Eastern Artists. The paintings of Harry Lelth-Ross have also arrived. The next week will see a hurry-scurry hurry-scurry of unpacking and uncrating pictures, getting Uicm hung in readiness for the Annual Cedar City Art Exhibit which begins Sunday, April 13, In the High School gym-nasium. |
