Show Walter K. Granger Talks at Rotary Meeting Tuesday . Congressman Walter K. Orar.ger was the guest speaker at the regular regu-lar wcjrkly luncheon meeting of th Cedar City Rotary Club Tuesday. Tues-day. Mr. Granger spoke on the importance im-portance of Cedar City, its location, and the spirit of its people, declaring declar-ing he thought it had a wonderful future and that with the miration mira-tion of everyone, Cedar City should go far in the post-war world. Mr. Granger also spent some time discussing various problems confronting con-fronting the government at this lime, stressing the controversies prevalent in the last session of Congress. One of the blgge.'t issues to come before the Congress in recent re-cent months, Mr. Granger pointed out, was the soldier vote bill. The controversy over this bill, he inld was due to racial problems particularly par-ticularly the negro vote In the South, and the much debated poll tax of the Southern states. Another An-other Issue, which was the cause of a bitter fight was the subsidy issue. In speaking of the tax bill, Mr. Oranger expressed doubt that it wo'Jld be gveatly changed, em-ph.asir.ltig em-ph.asir.ltig that half the cost of financing fin-ancing the war Is done by taxation, while the other half Is dont by bonds purchased by the American people. He also spoke briefly on the various phases of invasion and dwelt at some length on the war In the Pacific, declaring that In spite ot our recent successes In that area, It would undoubtedly be some time before the Japanese were conquered con-quered and the world was at peace again. Lt. Richard Stuckl, who is home on a short furlough, was also a special guest at the luncheon. The Community Service com. mlttee was In charge of the program, pro-gram, with D. C. Dlx, chairman, Johr Woodbury and C. L. Ewtng, members. |
