Show 0 v THE PROCTOR SYSTEM It I t has been suggested a number of times that we cure the evil of cheating in the University Univ University Uni Uni- v by introducing the honor system so sc successfully employed at Princeton The first instructor to put it into actual practice here is Professor Young He w will ll trust entirely entirely en en- to the integrity of his students in the matter of preparation and examination and nd if any ny dishonesty whatever is detected h hearne he earne earnestly asks that the students administer the punishment by withdrawing their favor and fellowship from the dishonest From this beginning Mr Young hopes to work up a sentiment that will lead to the establishment of the Proctor system which is simply a more elaborate honor honor system When Then this is done each professor will have havea a certain per cent of the student body as a personal persona charge It will be the duty of the professor profesor or proctor to examine each student student student stu stu- dent at the end of every week This does not mean that he will sin simply ply ascertain how much information the student has gathered dur during ng that period It rather means that the student will have a friend to go to where he may lay his life as an open book and re receive receive receive re- re sympathy and advice If he has cheated cheat cheat- ed during the week he must out with it If he has been ill the professor hears it If he has feelings against the instructors he may vent it If he has a friend the professor becomes becomes becomes be be- comes his confident so that all the information information information tion that it is possible for apy any faculty to have for the government of a student bod body a faculty under the proctor system will h ha r and Professor Young thinks the sooner if Is s established here the better Of course this new arrangement cannot be realized this year but it is hoped that the tile students will think about it seriously and help to create a sentiment for or against it that hat will result in ultimate good for the in sti tu tion |
