Iron county and paiticulariyr Cedar City, kept its traditional Republican status, in the election Tuesday, giving majorities ma-jorities to all Republican candidates except two, the voters favoring Congressman Walter K. Granger, and District Jude Will L. Huyt. Democrats. Granger received 1992 votes in the county to 1C77 cast for his opponent, op-ponent, B. H. Stringham of Vernal for a majority of 315 votes, to add to his victory margin over the First Congressional Dlstilit. He gained some strength in Cedar City, his homr town, this election over that of two years ago, when J. Bracken Lee won a slight majority here. However, his majority here was only 57 votes, with 1248 cast for him and 1191 for Stringham. The balance of the county gave horn a majority of 258 votes. He won In all voting districts except, Cedar No. 2 where he lost by 33 votes, Cedar No. 3, where lie was behind 3 votes, Enoch where he lost 15 to 43, Kan-arra, Kan-arra, 60 to 71, and Newcastle 25 to 37. Judge Hoyt was giveu a majority of 37 votes, 1787 to 1750. He was re-elected to office in the Fifth Judicial District with a toal vote jf 8485 to U51G for his opponent, Udell R. Jensen, for a majority of 1979 Votes. Parowan gave majorities to all Democrats except two "Natlive Sons", A. M. Marsden,' Republican candidate for District Judge and Durham Morris. Republican candidate candi-date for County Attorney. Mar.sden received 536 votes in Parowan to 164 for his opponent, while Morris received 519 votes to 187 for John M. Foster, Democratic candidate. Marsden received a majority of 913 votes in Iron county, getting 2246 votes to 1333 for Ellis Pickett of St. George. Pickett had almost as large a maJoMty in Washington county, and polled enough votes in Beaver, Millard and Juab counties to win by 527 Votes, 7764 to 7237. Morris had the biggest majority of any candidate, polling 2425 votes to 1164 for Foster, a margin of 1261 votes. Governor Herbert B. Maw, who was re-elected after a very clse race with J. Bracken Lee. was qui'c badly beaten in Iron-county, receiving re-ceiving only 1602 votes there as cam-pared cam-pared to 2121 for Lee, a margin of 519. President Roosevelt carried tin-state tin-state by a wide margin, but Iron county favored Governor Thomas E. Dewey by a total of 1942 votes to 1665. while Senator Elbert E. Thomas ran a little ahead of the President, polling 1706 votes to 1921 for Adam S. Bctinlon. While all candidates or state office of-fice on the Democratic licit were elected. Claud Hirschi of Hurricane wa re-elected to the State Senate from the eleventh dlsric compiling Iron and Washington counties. He defeated de-feated Ernest Macfarlane of Cedar City, Democrotie candidate, by 2045 votes to 1G29 in Iron county, and won by about the same maruin In Washington county. All Republican candidates foi county offices were elected. H. H Lunt, Representative to the state J Legislature; Charles R. Hunter. fMir-year County Commissioner; I. (E'. Riddle, two-year county commissioner, com-missioner, and Durham Morris, county attorney. Hunter and Riddle won by very narrow margins. Hunter defeating Warren Bulloch by 110 votes, and Riddle defeating Kumen s Gardner Gard-ner by 96 votes. Hunter received a total of 18663. Bulloch 175:1. Riddle 1864, and Gardner 1764.
