Rules Given By Social Security Official With defense Industries callinj for workers of all ages, men and women who are receiving retirement benefits under the Social Security Act were warned here today to notify the Social Security Board's Richfield Office if they go back to work. , ,v "Of course the Social Security Board would not d scourage workers work-ers from going back to work," Manager Man-ager Harry E. Johnson of the Board's Richfield office said, "but they must remember to tell us when they do so. As stated In the award letter they received when their claims were approved, they cannot receive their retirement benefits during any month In wh'.oh they earn more than (14.99 on a Job that, comes under the Social security Act. This is a matter of law. Manager Johnson explained, and there Is 8 penalty for disregarding It. The penalty causes a loss of two monthly payments for every one that should have been paid. "The same requirement and the same penalty apply to the wife or children of a retired worker who are receiving benefit payments on his account," Manager Johnson said. "They are not entitled to receive re-ceive payments for any month during dur-ing which the husband's or father's payments are stopped. "Nor are the wives or children entitled to receive their benefit payments if they themselves go to work on a Job which comes under the Social Security Act, and If it pays them more than $14.99 a month. Tills applies also to widows, orphans, and dependent parents who are receiving- monthly Insurance' Insur-ance' payments under the Social Security Act. "Write to the Board Immediately so that your checks for the months you are at work will not be mailed. If a check does come, however, don't cash It. Return to at once to the United States Treasury In Washington Wash-ington with an explanation of the reason for Its return." There are still other occasions when people who are receiving monthly insurance payments should notify the Social Security Board, Manager Johnson points out. Where a man and his wife are both getting get-ting benefits, they must notify the Board If they get a divorce; if one of them dies, the survivor must give notice of the death. Some member of the family must notify the Board when children who are receiving benefits stop school, if they are 16 or 17 years of age, or In case they marry when they are undsr 18. I |
