Show Many Foods Essential For Adequate Nutrition In order to have adequate nutrition nutri-tion many foods are essential to the body, and variety will Insure getting get-ting some of each of the food essentials. es-sentials. In some cases variety seems to be Impossible because children, sometimes have food dislikes dis-likes which makes It difficult for mothers to Include all foods In the diet. Substitutions can be made, however, how-ever, and are often overlooked. If a child does not like milk, but Is fond oil cheese, he can get his milk essentials In the form of cheese. Tlie mother will have to plan each meal so that the child can get his proper amount of calcium, and other oth-er food values present In milk. If tlie child does not like vegetables, but likes fruits, he can be given larger amounts of fruits, and still get some of the nutrition found In vegetables. Such practices of substitution are not to be relied upon except In special cases. Unless the mother studies carefully tlie amount of each of the food essentials needed and then calculates the amount that the child Is getting In the substituted substi-tuted food she may unknowingly eliminate some essentluLs. In most cases It would be advisable to have the child visit the family physician to determine whether the food essentials es-sentials WP npprlprl In rnnrentrntml form, and have him prescribe the proper amounts for the child to take. Part of the dislike of food Is because be-cause of example, or poorly prepared pre-pared food. If parents and older children eat all of their food with relish, the younger children are more apt to enjoy their foods. If the food Is not apjietlzingly prepared pre-pared it will not have appetite appeal ap-peal for children. Different ways of preparing vegetables often attract children's attention to their possibilities, possi-bilities, and they like the vegetables If they are served differently orten. If preparing foods was made an adventure, and eating was made to be fun, many Indifferent appetites could be pepped up. Each mother will of course have to handle her child differently, but through using substitutions most children can be made to get their proper amount of nutrition. |
