Show Elks Essay Contest Arousing Interest Of High School Students In the High Schools of Parowan. St. George, Milford and Cedar, and others throughout southern Utah, the students are showing a tremendous tre-mendous Interest in the essay contest con-test sponsored by the Elks Lodge on the subject "What Uncle Sam Means To Me." Under the rules of this contest, the contestant must do two things: Flist, he must examine the pic ture of Uncle Sam which is posted conspicuously in the High School buildings and name fourteen things which he sees in the picture; and Second, he must write an essay of between three hundred and five hundred words on the subject of 'What Uncle Sam Means To Me." The local Lodge of Elks is offering offer-ing prizes of $15.00 for the best essay, $10.00 for the next best essay and $5.00 for the third best essay on this subject. The Judges selected select-ed for the local contest are I. N. Wright, Durham Morris and Mrs. E. H. Southwick. The winning local essay will be submitted to the State Contest for additional prizes and the winning essay of the state will be submitted to the National contest, in which prizes of $1,000.00; $500.00 and $250.00 are offered. On account of the great demand for literature in connection with this contest, the Grand Lodge of the Elks Order has been compelled to postpone the closing date from March 31 to April 15 thus giving the students an additional two weeks time in which to prepare for the contest, For any particulars relating no the contest applicants should consult con-sult I.
