That southern Utah has not yet gone out of the livestock business is amply proven by the extensive shipments ship-ments of sheep and cattle that are being made from this section during the present month, which will exceed 100 cars, according to James M. Thomas, tho able and genial representative repre-sentative of the San Antonio Meat Company, of Pamona, California, who has closed a bargain for tho purchase pur-chase of all David Bulloch & SonB' wethers and lambs, which will comprise com-prise somo 13 cars. The prices paid aro $3.75 per head for lambs, $5.00 for wethers, and $4.75 for yearlings. Mr. Thomas has also bought about three cars of beef cattle from Henry Leigh and sons. Mr. Thomas travels all over tho states of Arizona, New Mexico, California, Cali-fornia, Nevada, Idaho and Utah buying buy-ing livestock, making practically all of this territory each month, and he states that ho does not know of finer people do do business with than he has met right here. Besides Mr. Thomas there arc registered reg-istered at tho Cedars Hotel, Messrs. McArthur and Arthur Calby from tho Imperial Valley, California, who aro also purchasing livestock for the California Cal-ifornia markets, or for feeding preparatory pre-paratory to marketing. Tho war in Mexico has practically cut off tho supply sup-ply of meat heretofore received from that country find California is compelled com-pelled to look farther north for its beef and mutton, which is having a stimulating effect on the markets of this section of country, and aided by tho European war has sent tho price of all kinds of meat stuff higher than for. many years past. Messrs. McArthur and Cably will each ship u considerable quantity of . 5 feeders to California about Nov. 10. At the present. time Mr. Thomas is not in tho market for much in tho lino, of cattle, except finished stuff, ns he states that ho can buy cheaper elsewhere in his territory, but a little later when other supplies aro exhausted exhaust-ed he will be ready to contract for cattle of other grades. |
