Show H ' SOMEBODY HAS LIED. ON page 53 of the new Utah State Gazetteer, in the Cedar City department, there ap- B ,pears the display adverticments of two news- H papers, Tho Iron County Record and The Observer. m In The Record's ad. this line appears: "Southern M Utah's Leading Nwspaper, guaranteed largest H circulation." In the Observer's ad. we And the HI following : "Has largest circulation of any paper in M Southern Utah." There they stand, staring the m , Avhqle state in the eye, and bcarirg silent witness fl to the fact that one or the other is a liar. To a M stranger to both papers and the people who con- H duct them, one paper's statement is as good as the Hs other, and the casiiaT reader or the prospective advertiser is left to' choose between them. H This is nodoubt -very satisfactory to our dis- H- honest' contemporary, who continues to gurgle Ht forth slush about its "square deal," its dependable H'' news service, its magnanimity in avoiding a eon- H-1 troversy, and all that sort of thing, but it is not K satisfactory to this paper. In the eyes of the H' public, one of the local newspapers is a liar, and K wo say that it is npt The Record. Furthermore, H , we are prepared to prove it to the satisfaction of H a' committee of the business men of Cedar City, H whose advertising patronage web )th solicit. The H! Held here is only large enough for one good, relia- H ble, well-nourished newspaper, ai d we will make H the Observer the following proposition : "We will H submit our evidences of circulation to a.commit- H ' tee of business men, who shall examine our res- H ( pective subscription lists and such other evidences B os we can produce, and determine which paper lies Kj? and which speaks the truth. If we are the liar, Kjt we agree to vacate the field and r.cknowledge our B T plq. ' If you are the liar, you are to do the same. j Jf you are not the liar, you will aijrce to our pro- H' ,po"sal." Now, come through, and let the people H see "you in your'true colors'. |
