Leigh, County Agent for the Dort Motor Cars. J. D. Leigh of Lund, local distributor distribu-tor for the Dort cars, pays the farmer a compliment on his astuteness' in choosing u motor car. Says Mr. Leigh "Anyone who has had experience in selling motor cars to the farmer knows that ho tnkes very littlo for granted. Tho furmcr is strictly from Missouri and he wants to be shown. Motorwise from having operated much of his machinery by gasoline motor, ho is familiar with the principles prin-ciples nnd openrntion of engines. Ho has before him nil the time just what a car must be able to do to bo an investment in-vestment for him, nnd he particularly looks for quality and sturdiness of construction. With this mental picture in mind, the farmer is not easily sold. It is not enough to tell him that your car has an unusually heavy crank shaft and extra size bearings, etc. Ho wants to seo that crankshaft and bearings with his own oyes, and he docs. Previous to looking, chances are that he has studied the catalogues and literature of your car and othor cars in its price-class, nnd tho familiarity famil-iarity with which ho can discuss the various points of ignition, enrburc-tion. enrburc-tion. spring suspension, rear nxlo and engine features of your car is positively posi-tively surprising. Discernment Is a quality possessed in n largo measure by tho farmer, and he must rather sell himself on the merit of your car, than bo sold by tho salesman. This docs 'not mean that tho salesman can be lacking in knowledge knowl-edge about his own cur, for the farmer will invariably ask him a lino of technical tech-nical questions that only a thorough knowledge of car construction can satisfactorily answer. If there is hidden quality in your car tho farmer will find it every time, just nB surely as he will ferret out tho lack of it or nny structural weakness. A large proportion of tho Dort cars sold by ua this season wore purchased by, farmors, a fact which wo consider significant. Adv.
