Show PUBLIC INTERESTED IN POLITICAL "JOBS" Washington, D. C. Jan. 31. No matter how important the business before Congress may be, there is nothing that so interests in-terests the public at large m the handing out of Federal pie. Not that so many people are asking for a hunk of it, although al-though the Members of CongreM who find their daily mail burdened bur-dened with petitions for jobs arc tempted to think so. It's just a peculiarity of moat folks that they wonder who will get all the good jobs that are to bo distributed. That's why the determination of the Seriate to hold up confirmations of the President's nominations has aroused so much interest. There is a deadlock over it and unless the democrats are given some concessions they threaten not to allow any of the names to go through during the entire session. ses-sion. Of course this makes the cold chills creep along the spinal columns of a large number of very excellent gentlemen and a few more worthy ladies who are perfectly acceptable to the President, but who seem unable to get past the Senate obstructions. |
