Show H Should Repair Tabernacle. - v ' "Good churches, good schools." In nearly V ' ' every leaflet, letter, booklet, newspaper, or other v publication, where an attempt is made by a com-B com-B ;l mercial organization or an individual land or real B ( estate association, to induce now settlers to come m to a community, the above phrase is invariably to : ' be found. Why? Because a community that B .' maintains good schools and churches is generally M , looked upon as a good place to live; the people BL are quite likely to be peaceable, law-abiding and M " moral. The community that builds good chuches B and maintains them is considered a christian cornel corn-el munity. It is for this reason chuches are absent m. and saloons and gambling houses present in most M - '" ' mining camps 'the people who make up the popu-m popu-m lation are, as a whole, anything but christians; H- -"" " they are in no sense church supporters. H In Cedar City the tabernacle is the only pub-B pub-B , ; lie house of Worship. When the structure was m' ' erected a great, jmany years ago it was not com-H- - - pleted, doubtless for lack of funds. But as the H .'- years have passed and the city has grown in M ;v' . 'population and wealth, nothing has been done to B ' complete the building. Inasmuch as the taber-R taber-R 'nacle isT the largest the principal building in H, - Parowan Stake, it should be a building in keeping M:y 1 .':' with other similar places of worship throughout My ' the country. ms In other cities of the state new meeting- f houses and churches are being erected at a cost B ) ' of thousands of dollars, and it speaks well for those B '" towns. Considering that there is no other place B of worship, dedicated to that purpose only, in the B ;' i city, surely the people can afford to place the Br tabernacle in first-class condition. Money is , , aIways available for shows, dances, and other B' J J forms of amusement. Could not a few dollars be B7 ; t realized by a series of entertainments for making B " 'necessary repairs? Doubtless there are some who V ' would make liberal contributions for such a pur- ;; poee, if approached by some one authorized to Bl '' take the matter in hand. B , "& We commend this suggestion to the bishops B y" ". and Ward officers of the two Wards of Cedar City, Bf believing that they are in a, position to devise k v-' ways and means to accompplish this much needed B& '? ' improvement .,v |
