Show PLAN YOl K WOKK One oi die fundamental principles of successful business in fact the most essential thing is "Planning." Kvery writer on the Object of Efficiency Effic-iency lays special stress on the importance im-portance of Planning, Plans and re-ords, re-ords, are the foundation of efficiency. The man who is content to let things drift along as they happen, rather than to take the trouble of keeping records of accomplishments and planning plan-ning improvements, is not a business man. There is no use to growl because be-cause more business does not come to you because too much cash is being be-ing sent away to mail order houses. The thing to do is to look around for the cause and "plan" to overcome the evil. Kvery manager of a mercantile or other business establishment should have a definite plan or program mapped map-ped out for each day, week and month. ! All details cannot be filled in a month ahead, of course, but the general plan and improvements can lie decided on and the details worked out as you go along but always in advance. From tints to time it is necessary to change and amend plans, as we all know; but if we have a definite object in view we are very much more likely to obtain it than if you go along in a haphazard manner, depending upon intuition to guide us. In order to plan successfully, one must be quiet and undisturbed, so far as possible. After business hours, in the early morning or on Sunday is a good time to plan. Merchants should plan a definite program for increasing their sales each week, at least, and I at the beginning of the week is the best time to do this. Try it, Mr. I Merchant. (let where you are quiet, ; and think what you can do to Increase your .-lies, and better please your customers. Have at hand data on the condition of your stock, and the way it is moving. Then- are many ways of stimulating trade and of mak-j mak-j big the goods in each department earn a dividend. Scheme how to reach the catalog "fiend" and induce him to keep his money at home. Make your advertising, ad-vertising, whether dodgers, posters, newspaper or whatever it may consist con-sist of, work in with and help the general gen-eral plan of your work, and you will i be surprised to find how very easy it I is to write advertising copy. Picture in your mind's eye hundreds I of families throughout this county , with a big Scars & Scratchback cata-i cata-i log on their center tables, with members mem-bers pouring over the bargains!?) I therein contained. Plan how you can divert their attention from the cata log and rivet it upon the merchandise in your store. I'lai. every detail of your week's campaign ahead Use your newspaper advertising as a lever, a self starter a crank, if you will to set the ma chine in motion. You can accomplish a great deal if you will only try. |
