Show 9J THIS RINGS TRUE HP I IF project that is receiving consideration lo-cally. lo-cally. and which is promised the support of a number of outside capitalists, for the construction of a cement plant in this locality, has the right ring to it, for the following reasons: Cement is every day and every year playing a greater part in the lives of the people. More and more if it is being used in all kindes of building operations, and it means a lot to the comfort and convenience of the human family. It is a commodity com-modity that is here to stay, and ft)r which there is an ever increasing demand. There is strong talk these days of a cement road right down through the state, from Logan to St. George, and if such a highway is constructed, it will not only mean that an immense amount of cement will be required for the purpose in this sec-tion, sec-tion, but it will also provide an easy and economical economic-al means of marketing the product for a considerable consider-able distance to the north and to the south of us. Tests are now being made of the materials which are to be found east of Cedar City in close proximity to each other the shale, the lime, the gypsum and the sand which are needed in the manufacture of Portland cement, and it is doubtful doubt-ful if there is another spot in the West where all of these materials can be found so conveniently located, with an abundance of coal for burning them, close at hand. If these ingredients respond satisfactorily to the test, there can be absolutely no argument against the wisdom of establishing such an enterprise here. The project is said to he encouraged and backed by prominent financiers in the north, and also by some of the strong men of Washington county on the south. All that remains is for Cedar City citizens to get together and boost unitedly for it. This is one of our golden opportunities which we cannot afford to neglect Portland cement factories fac-tories in the north are big dividend payers, and if properly installed and conducted plant will do the same here, besides saving thousands of dollars dol-lars annually to people of this localit) in freight charges, and being a great convenience Nothing would tend more to build up the country in a substantial sub-stantial and permanent manner. fS |
