Show COMMON TAPEWORM IN LAMBS Not Believed That They Are Responsible Respon-sible for Many Deaths of Animals, Says Western Expert. (Ily I. E. NBWSOM. Colorado ARrlcul-tural ARrlcul-tural College, Kort Collins, Colo.) Tho common tapeworm of lambs Is ono that has a habit of getting into the duct loading from tho llvor, and for this reason many who havo examined exam-ined Bheop, dead of disease, havo suspected sus-pected tho tapeworm of causing tho death. It might bo well to stato that moro than GO por cent of all westorn lambs havo theso tapoworms, as evidenced evi-denced by finding them on tho killing kill-ing floors at tho largo packing houses. Whllo it must bo admitted that in a fow instances they may causo somo troublo, yet it Ib not bollovcd that thoy aro responBlblo for many of our lamb losses. During tho slogo of tho Kansas horso dlsoaso somo man unfamiliar with tho normal conditions in horses for tho first tlmo found Pallsado worms in tho abdominal arteries of dead horses. Ho at onco Jumped at tho conclusion that theso worms woro responsible for tho diseaso. Had ho known that approximately 95 por cont of nil horses havo thoso samo worms, his reputation might not havo sufforcd. It Is rather common for veterinarians to dlaguoso tapoworms In dogs, and In about 95 per cent these dlagnosos at correct, but that tho tapoworms in thoso animals aro responsible for diseaso dis-easo is not at all ovldent, oxcopt In a vory small percentage- of cases. So it Ib with thoso tapoworms in lambs. Thoy can always bo found In posting any largo number of animals, but that they aro responsible for nny sorlouts diseaso is ovldent only in a fow cases. |
