Show AUSTRIA APPROVES GERMANY'S STAND HAS 8EVERED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS RE-LATIONS WITH UNITED 8TATES, RECALLING REPRESENTATIVES Immediately Following News of Break, the Treasury Department Orders Seizure of All Austrian Ships in American Harbors. Washington Austria Hungary, ranging rang-ing herself unreservedly with Germany, Ger-many, has severed diplomatic relations rela-tions with the I'nited Slates, precipitating precipi-tating a situation which generally Is expected here to lead to war. Ilaron Erich Zwledinek, the Austrian Aus-trian Charge, asked the state department depart-ment on April 9 for passports for himself, him-self, his staff and the Austrian consular con-sular force in this country; and simultaneously simul-taneously Americun Minister Stovall reported from Heme that Austria had announced the break in relations to the American embassy in Vienna the previously day. Immediately the treasury depart nient ordered the seizure of all Aus trlan merchant ships in American harbors. The Austrian crews were taken off and sent to immigration stations sta-tions and American guards put on board. The measure was explained as purely one of precautloi., but it Is real-l?.d real-l?.d that It may be interpreted by Austria as an act of war. In a similar situation, after the break with Germany, Ger-many, no ships were seized until a state of war actually had been declared. de-clared. Whether Bulgaria and Turkey are preparing to follow suit still is unknown, un-known, hut officials generally believe that sooner or later they will do so. Bulgarian Minister Panaretoff called on Secretary Iansing late Monday to ask if this' government had any information infor-mation from Sofia, hut was told none had been received. Both Bulgaria and Turkey are believed here to be weary of the war. but German domination of the central European alliance is expected ex-pected to drive them, as it drove Austria, Aus-tria, to break with Germany's new enemy.
