We greatly appreciate a communication com-munication from Geo. W. Foster who is engaged in mission work in Germany. He has recently changed his seat of operations to Dortmund, to which place he directs that The Record be sent, and that friends address their correspondence. We are in receipt of information informa-tion to the effect that Township 42 S., Range 7 West, S. L. Mer-ridian, Mer-ridian, and Township 37 South, Range 11 West, S. L. Meridian, will shortly be thrpwn open to entry en-try under the public land laws, plats having been received at the United States Land Office from the Surveyor-General, and will be filed June 18. The editor is in receipt of a pleasing and interesting letter from Mr. Treharne Leigh who is located at Duluth, Minn., where tie is connected with the Northern States Mission of the L. D. S. church. Mr. Leigh says several good things about The Record that quite naturally make the editor's chest "swell with pride." He also takes occasion to enter the "wrong wordy advertising contest, and in doing so administers a "roast" to his cousin, our fellow-townsman, W. II. 'Peterson, the popular contracting plumber, is in Pnra-gonah Pnra-gonah this week with his family where he is engaged in supervising supervis-ing the installation of the water system for that place. "The pipe line from the springe to the heart of the town will be laid with three-inch pipe, and all diverging di-verging lines will be of two-inch pipe, excepting service lines to buildings. Up to Saturday last more than 3,000 feet of pipe had been laid and the work is progressing pro-gressing rapidly. Shearing at Gould's corrals in Washington county has been completed, moro than 125,000 head of sh'eep having been sheared at this place alone the present season. The late season and the unsettled weather has caused the death of thouasnds of newly-shorn sheep. Heaton Brothers of Moicasin, Arizona, estimate their loss at more than a thousand head, while E. D.( Woolley, A. D. Findlay, and many others in the same vicinity, vicin-ity, were heavy losers. Drs. Middleton and Leonard performed six operations at the. Southern Utah hospital last( week. Mrs. Lorenzo Adams underwent an operation for the removal of gallstones, Wm. Simpkins for bladder trouble and appendicitis, two children of Professor Decker's for thoi removal of tonsils and adenoids, Ray Robinson for the removal of adenoids, and Mrs. Gus Lundgren for a minor trouble. All the patients are doing splendidly splen-didly and on the high road to complete recovery. Miss Jean Brown, a sister of Miss Agnes of the Record staff, has accepted a position with the Branch Normal school in this city and will enter upon her duties du-ties in that capacity the coming term. Miss Brown has been attending at-tending the Chicago university and her work in that institution has received unstinted praise by the faculty; and has been exploited ex-ploited in the school publication. The Record congratulates the local school in securing her services, ser-vices, and the people of the community com-munity that she is to take up her residence in Cedar City. Mr. Middleton is, M an energetic, enterprising citi- M zen, and Cedar City is glad to M receive him.
