EMERY. and sent to Franco with tho first group of Americans. Ho at first was assigned to tho nillway transportation olllco at Rlols, France, anil remained tbero until February 20, 1013. Later ho attended tho First corps school at dondrccourt until March -I, when ho took chnrgo of company F, Eighteenth Infantry, First brlgndo, First division. Major Emory participated in nil the major actions with his regiment In 1018, nt Cnntlgny In April, May and Juno; nt St. Mlhiel in September, and In tho Mciise-Argonno offcnslvo in September and October. Soon after his return to Orund Rnplds, ho was elected a member of tho Grand Rapids city commission, com-mission, n position he has hold since that time.
