V, Cardon of tho Branch Agricul- tural College, in the course of his re- j marks, read tho following piece, writ-ten writ-ten by Tom Dillon of Seattle, which I was published recently in tho Congressional Con-gressional Record. "For the body you gave me, the bono and the sinew, the heart and the brain that aro yours, my mother, f thank you. For the light in my eyes, for the blood in my veins, for my veins, for my speech, for my life, for my boing. All that I am is from you who boro me. "For all tho love that you gave me, unmeasured from the beginning, my mother, I thank you. I thank you for tho hand that led mo, tho voice that directed me, tho lap that rested me. All that I am is by you who nursed me. "For your smile in the morning nnd your kiss at night, my mother, I thank you. I thank you for the tears you shed over me, tho songs that you sang to me, the prayers you said for me, for your vigils and ministerings. "For tho faith you had in me, tho hope you had for me, for your trust nnd your pride, my mother, I thank you. I thank you for your praise and your chiding, for tho justice you bred into me and for tho honor you made mine. All thnt I am you taught me. "For the sore travail that T caused you, for the visions and despairs my mother, forgive me. Forgivo mo the peril I brought to you, the sobs nnd tho monns I wrung from you, and the strength I took from you, mother, forgive me. "For the fears I gave you, for the alarms and tho dreads, my mother, forgive me. Forgive me the joys of which I depi'ived you, the toil I made for you, for the hours and the days and tho years I claimed from you, mother, forgive me. "For the times that I hurt you, the times I hnd no smile for you, mother, forgive me. Forgive me for my anger and revolts, for my deceits nnd evasions, eva-sions, for nil the pangs and sorrows I' brought to you, mother, forgive me. "For your lessons I did not learn, for your wishes I did not heed, for tho counsels I did not obey, my mother, moth-er, forgive me. Forgivo mo my pride in my youth nnd my glory in my strength thnt forgot the holiness of your years and tho veneration of your weakness, for nil the great debts of your love that I have not paid, mother sweet mother, forgive me. "And mny the peace and the joy that passeth nil understanding be yours, my mother, forever and ever. Amen." |
