Show WILL LOOK OVER 1 PAROWANOIL FIELD.; HENRY CRITTENDEN OF CONQUEROR OIL CQICP IN THE COUNTY. WILL LEASE LAND. ' i Company Hopes to Begin Opera-j tions Before the End of the ' Year. ' MMBMIHlH Henry Crittenden of Salt Lake City, president of the Conqueror Oil corporation, arrived in Cedar on his way to Parowan, Wcdues-dav. Wcdues-dav. The gentleman informed a Record representative that he has come down to look over the field with a view of picking out a spot ' to put down a test well. He will j also secure in leases some 4,000 acres of patented land in the Paro-wan Paro-wan valley, to be added to 3,000, acres already secured. It is the intention of the company com-pany to begin operations soon, so statesMr. Crittenden, and the com- pany is desirous of getting as much land leased as possible so that other companies may not profit by the Conqueror's pioneering. I Two prominent geologists have gone over the field and each lias given it as his opinion that oil or gas, with the preference for oil, will be found at a depth of from 1,500 to 1,800 feet. One of the geologists, a Air. Wang, was under the cm-ploy cm-ploy of the Associate Oil company of California, and his report to that company was eminently satisfac fnr The other geologist, Mr. Burritt, also gave a good-rcportrand-as-he is the man who expertcd the Virgin Vir-gin field, and has a nation wide reputation for veracity, the promoters pro-moters of the Parowan valley field feel justified in testing it out. A number of our readers will remember re-member that last spring the Parowan Paro-wan Coal company assigned all their holdings and interest in the Gap to the Conqueror company. Since that time there has been sc- land by lease, tin owners all being be-ing enthusiastic ovcl- j,v proposition proposi-tion and doing everything within their power to push it along. Thp Parowan valley is not the only section in Iron county in which the geologists claim there is oil. In the Iron Springs region, reaching north, the indications are very pronounced for oil. Below Paragonah reaching to Buckhorn, are also strong indications. The geologists claim that the apex of the oil formation, however, lies in the Parowan Gap, nine miles west of Parowan. We are certainly pleased to learn ' that an effort is to be made lo secure se-cure oil in Iron county and we trust that before the present year has passed actual operations will be in evidence. i |
