Of those six men who wcro detailed to carry tho body of President Lincoln Lin-coln from tho Peterson house on Tenth street, whoro ho died, to the White Houso, where tho body wns prepared for burial, thero ore to-day buttwo survivors. These aro John C. WMMMMHIIMdmWnMHnMHl WILLIAM REITH J Weaver of Philadelphia and William Relth of this city. Mr. Woaver, ln a recent letter re-cltos re-cltos his part ln tho duty devolving upon him. Among other things ho said: "It has always been a source of prldo to mo to know thnt I was ono of tho six men detailed to carry the body of our martyred President to tho Whlto House. "I was a soldier ln tho quartermaster's quartermas-ter's department at that time, when detailed to assist in carrying tho body of Lincoln from the Peterson houso on Tenth street, opposlto Ford's theater, to tho White Houso. "Arriving at tho White Houso, wo carried him to his bedchamber, where his body was given ln chargo to Government Gov-ernment Undertaker Sands. "No ono seemed to bo aB grief stricken as Secrotary of War Stanton, Stan-ton, for he was tho most grief-stricken man I over saw. Since then I havo , -aaa I JOHN CV(EME2 often thought that It was no wonder that Stanton's death occurred bo soon after Lincoln's. "It was not only my fortune to be honored as ono of tho detail to carry Lincoln's dead body to tho White House, but I am one of tho survivors of tho 'first defenders of Pennsylvania,' Pennsyl-vania,' who arrived In Washington on tho ovenlng of April 18, 1861."
