Show THANKSGIVING 'y HE Thanksgiving season is again at hand, and A while the American people, in connection with nearly, all the civilized world, have much to be thankful for; but still we cannot help but contemplate contem-plate those hundreds of thousands of American families into which the sinister angle of death has entered and deprived them of loved ones, either as a result of the war or the more deadly epidemic of influenza which has swept over the country like a pall. We will venture to say that there .will be mare vacant chairs at the festive board of this Thanksgiving than at any previous one since the Thanksgiving custom was inaugurated. And while we are giving thanks to an all-wise and munificient Creator for His many blessings, we suspect that the occasion will be deeply tinged with sorrow, either on our own account or due to the grief and bereavement that has come to neighbors neigh-bors or friends. Tho day calls for a more conservative and genuine gen-uine observance than ever before in the past, and should be one of prayorf ulness rather than of excessive ex-cessive feasting, according to our viewpoint. |
