Show Sacred Heart Academy. Christina and Catherine Erickson. who were called home two weeks ago on account of the death of their father, have returned to Sacred Heart, much to the satisfaction ,of their little companions. com-panions. The second readers were subjected to a final test in algebra, last Thursday. In many cases the reports were most creditable and showed a clear knowledge knowl-edge of this intricate branch of mathematics. mathe-matics. Miss Marguerite McXulty. graduating graduat-ing class '10, has been on the sick list for the past week. She is now convalescent, con-valescent, and her companions hope to have the pleasure of seeing once more her "smiling countenance" in the halls of S. H. A. Although the Christmas holidays are at an end the students have not entirely entire-ly settled down to steady work. This fact was attested last week when Miss Xida Rouff. a boarder at Sacred Heart, after a delightful visit with her father in the city, departed for Salt Lake, where a very pleasant outing was enjoyed. en-joyed. Sacred Heart astronomers and those interested in "star gazing' were given a rare treat during the week, that of viewing the newly-discovered comet A-1910. Much interest was manifested in this meteoric body, and the heavens will no doubt be the admiration and the study of astronomical students for the next ten days, until the "phenomena "phenome-na of the heavens" has disappeared below our horizon to command the attention at-tention of those in other spheres. The first of February was ushered in by the annual musical examinations. Contrary to the rule of former years, the beginners did not perform, as it is expected they will give a little recital of their own in the near future. Three days were devoted to this all-important art "that hath power to soothe the savage heart." As each pupil ranging from the youngest performer to the dignified graduate executed with delicacy deli-cacy and skill her respective part, the faculty and other interested persons expressed their approval at the rapid improvement in this most difficult of studies. That the students of Sacred Heart are not wanting in loyalty to their classmates was evinced last Thursday afternoon, when a farewell party was tendered Miss Mauil McGuiness previous pre-vious to her departure for San Francisco, Fran-cisco, Cal., where she will make her future home. Promptly at 4 o'clock the members of her class, with the graduates as honored guests, impaired to the recreation recrea-tion hall, where a delicious luncheon was served. A delightful hour was passed at the festal board, interspersed with "light jest and laughter and song." The remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing, after which the girls bade their dear classmate a fond adieu. Many wishes go with her that he will be very happy in net new home and that she may make as many true friends as she has left behind be-hind her. MABEL B. KRAUSS,' 10. |
