J ' Alumni Association to Banquet. ! r On Friday evening: of last week the Alumni association of the Immaculate .Conception High school held its an- ; 5 Jiual meeting- and elected officers for a the ensuing year. Raymond Hickey, a I .class 'OS, was re-elected president; n Miss Marie Tobin, class '06, vice presi- ', dent; Miss Madora Bonham, class, '03. f ; secretary, and Miss Maude Miller, '02, ; treasurer. I ' i The principal business of the meet- y ; Jng was the discussion as to the advis- t ?' , ability of issuing a directory of gradu- l , ates for the benefit of members of the j Alumni association. Miss Ruth Lang I was asked to prepare the directory and I secure estimates on the cost of print- ing it. Miss Lang will offer her report f . at the annual banquet to be held on I I Thursday, June 20. f ; It was decided to make the dues in t i me association nv rents per year, in addition to , the banquet fee, which ' heretofore has been the only cost con- ; nected with membership. This will cover incidental expenses. I The Alumni now numbers thirty-six s members, and when the class of 1907 I is enrolled will reach forty-seven. Of this number the majority still live In Denver. In the proposed directory a I paragraph will be given to each grad- tiate. . , : The Savoy hotel will be the scene of I the Alumni banquet on. June 20. A committee , composed of. Dr. James I. I Lughlin, chtss. '02; Miss Gertrude ! Norton. '06. and Maurice Hickey, '06, was pelected to assign responses to toasts proposed by Miss Elizabeth Kelly, Kel-ly, t he toast master. Rev. Father Louis F. Hagus, class j "98, who is now stationed at Colorado f Springs, will be invited to address the Alumni at the banquet. In all the history of the Cathedral parish the men, young and old. have never taken the interest in any argan- ization that they are displaying for I the Holy Name society, which is of re- 1 cent origin in Logan Avenue chapel. I Forty men were received in the ranks I of the society Sunday evening with ap- ' propriate ceremony. The members of I the organisation received Holy Com- I munion at early morning mass and , i gathered in the school rooms above the I church at 7 o'clock Sunday evening to I make ready for the reception. The ce- remony was simple but impressive, J and a sermon by the Rev. Father Mc- I Donald, S. J., was inspiring as well as I instructive. 1 The members of the Holy Name so- ' cjety, which has existed in other par- " ' lshes of Denver for years, are enthu- siastic over the cause with which they I have associated themselves and are V working hard to spread the movement f ; against profanitv. ? Alexius A. Gargan. the president, is especially interested in the work. ! Through his personal effort a large number of members have bee secured. The society has taken the fourth Sunday of the month for its meeting days. Young Ladiet' Sodality. I Friday evening. May 31. the last day ' of May. is to be marked by a reception . of young women into the Young La-; La-; dies' sodality of the Immaculate Con ception parish. The most elaborate service of the month is to mark the occasion, and thirty candidates for admission ad-mission into the sodality will be received. re-ceived. The young women will wear white gowns, and the altars will, be . beautifully decorated, making " the scene in Logan Avenue chapel a decidedly decid-edly pretty one. The Queen's Daughters choir will furnish fur-nish the musical program, assisted by Miss Bessie Crean as soloist. It will be practically the last time the choir will be heard because of the approach of summer weather. The only other occasions oc-casions will be the weddings, of which ihere are three, scheduled for the month of June among the Queen's Daughters. The choir will sing at the marriage of Miss Margaret Rank and Thomas Morrow on June 13 in Lo?an Avenue chapel, and two davs later will be heard in the same church at the wedding wed-ding of Miss Nora Maloney and D. J. 'ahill. An elaborate program is being planned for this occasion. Miss Maloney Malo-ney has been a member of the choir ever since its organization two years ago, and has been accounted one of its most faithful members. Then the third and last wedding so far announced to the choir will be that of Miss Emma Corbet, another choir member, and Frank Peers of Chicago, which will take place at Sacred Heart church on the evening of June 25. Father McMenamin Thanks Choir. I On last Sunday Father McMenamin, in announcing the disbanding of the Queen's Daughters' choir for the summer, sum-mer, thanked the young men and women wo-men publicly for their untiring efforts in making the choir a success. The music furnished by this organization has done much to make the 9:30 o'clock mass attractive, and Father McMenamin McMena-min expressed the hope that it will be reorganized in the fall with the same splendid singers. Miss Maloney Entertained. Miss Nora Maloney, who on June 15 will become the bride of D. J. Cahill, ' secretary of the Hardwood Lumber company, has been the recipient of considerable social attention so far, and several other delightful affairs are planned for her for the next couple of weeks. Misses Margaret and Kather-ine Kather-ine Goodwin will have a card party and handkerchief howor for her on Saturday Satur-day .Jum -8, .arid Mrs. A. A. Gargan entertains for her on the evening of V June 4. Dr. and Mrs. J. J. O'Neil will be hosts at a -dinner for the bridal party. : On last Saturday Miss Kelly gave a china shower for Miss Maloney. Pink and white was the color scheme. Those invited were Miss Maloney, Miss Margaret Mar-garet Maloney, Miss Jennie Fisher, Mirs Kaiherine Fisher, Miss Josephine Shevnin, Miss Georgia Shevnin, Miss Margaret Schlacks, Miss Josephine Wceber, Miss Clara Woeber, Miss Mary Mulrooney, Mrs. J. The primary grao.es of St. Mary's academy on California street held closing clos-ing exercises in the school hall Tuesday Tues-day morning, May 28. A delightful program was arranged, consisting of choruses, drills, recitations and piano solos, and was greatly enjoyed by the parents and friends of the young performers. per-formers. School will not close for some weeks, but experience has taught the Sisters that the children work better bet-ter before the warm weather sets in. Forty Hours' Devotion. The "Forty Hours Devotion" at the Church of the Holy Ghost closed Sunday Sun-day evening with appropriate cere-1 mony. The altar was beautifully decorated deco-rated with American Beauties and red carnations, and solemn benediction of the Blessed Sacrament was given by the pastor, Rev. Father Bender. A sermon on the Blessed Sacrament was preached by Right Reverend Bishop Matz. Church Notes. The priests of the Cathedral parish feel highly gratified at the ever increasing increas-ing zeal and fervor of their people. They estimate that during the last two weeks of the paschal season upward of twenty-five hundred persons received re-ceived the sacrament in Logan Avenue chapel, while the attendance each evening even-ing at Mriy devotions has been greater than durng any previous year. Reverend Father Sasse of Georgetown, George-town, Colorado, was in Denver during the week, a guest at the Cathedral parochial residence on Logan avenue. Reverend P. A. Phillips of the Cathedral Cathe-dral parish, who was called to Vancouver, Van-couver, B. C, some weeks ago by the serious illness of his mother, will return re-turn to Denver in a short time. Father Phillips leaves his mother in a greatly improved condition. |
