Show MORE NOBEL PRIZES. The men charged with the duty of reward achievements in science and literature in exeeut the wishes of the founder of the Nobel prizes h announced some more bestowals upon a nu.ii whose work merits recognition. The physics pr amounting to about $40,000. has been divided tween Marconi and Dr. Braun of Strausburg, b of whom have been identified with the science wireless communication by means of Hertz wa: No one, we believe, will question the justice of recognition bestowed upon Marconi, but just v Dr. Braun, whose name is not familiar to world at large, should have been made an eq recipient of the prize with Marconi, to the e.v sion of a number of other men who have worked the same endeavor, is not explained. To Man-is Man-is undoubtedly due exclusive credit for showing practicability of wireless communication, and name at one time bid fair, through association v the wireless, to be adopted in the language, in word "Marconigram," though it has virtually g into disuse. Besides Dr. Braun, there are otl who, it seems, by their work, are equally entitle-recognition, entitle-recognition, if Marconi is to be denied the exclu. credit. In our own country, Messrs. Fessenden ; DeForest have done much to perfect the wirel-and wirel-and Count Arco and Dr. Slaby of Germany and Oliver Lodge of England are quite as distinguis on matters electrical as the one sharing the w less honors with Marconi. However, the difficulties of reaching a decis undoubtedly were many, and it is probable that claims of the successful one, besides Marconi, w presented with more vigor than were the cla of the others. The division of the prize, howe will not affect Marconi's place as the first to dem strate the practicability of wireless communicat; even if injustice is done to others who hold as ju claim to recognition in the development and j fection of this twentieth century wonder. |
