Show j 0GDEN, UTAH. I (Special Correspondence.) Exercises of. an exceptionally devout and magnificent character marked the celebration of the Easter services -At fet. Joseph's last Sunday. The first mass was celebrated at 6 a. m.. and the Holy communion was adminiered to over 100 communicants. At the S 30 mass Father P. Cushnahan delivered deliv-ered the sermon, in which he dwelt on the significance of Easter and why the day is celebrated by all Christians in all parts of the world. At this mass holy communion was administered to about 100 Knights of Columbus, more than 100 young ladies of the Sodality of the Children of Mary, and to all-the communicants in tyre church. High mass wa celebrated at 10:30. and Father Cushnahan preached the sermon, in which he proved the divinity divin-ity of Christ, related the miracles performed per-formed by the Savior and the victory of Jesus over death and the grave. There was no music at the early morning mass, but at the second mass the choir was composed of the young ladies of Sacred Heart academy, little Genevieve Malone excelling herself on the violin and the music of the mass being exceptionally rendered bv the chorus. At high mass the Allclulia was rendered by St. Joseph's choir, under the direction of John Junk, Miss Mae Conroy at the organ. The offertorv was sung by Miss Agnes Grill and was very effective. Walter Bauchman rendered ren-dered the "Agnus Dei" and the "Ben-cdictus." "Ben-cdictus." He is a young man of 18 . years, but possesses a baritone voice of rare power, range and sweetness. The ladies of the Altar society had I worked faithfully in renovating the sanctuary during Holy week, but it was not until S&arday that the decorations deco-rations were begun. The altar was laden with-Easter liiies and banked with beautiful flowers, and the statues of the saints were profusely decorated. At 7:30 p. m. there was the usual rosary and benediction. On Monday afternoon of this week several of the Intimate friends of Miss Bessie Phalen. the prospective bride of James Hassett of Lewiston, Ida., tendered ten-dered her a parcel shower at the cosy home of Mrs. D. L. Boyle on Lincoln avenue. The rooms were beautifully decorated decorat-ed In white and green, the color scheme being also carried out in' the dainty refreshments served. Sweet music was dispensed throughout the afternoon by the Misses Krauss, Hess, Maginnis and Malone. The bride-to-be received many beautiful and useful gifts, which were opened by her bridesmaid. Miss Ida Cassin, inspected by the bride and then placed on a table to be viewed by her many friends, of whom a goodly number num-ber were present, and all voiced the sentiment that Miss Bessie's journey through married life may be as bright j and fair as the scene which graced tne I afternoon of April 20. |
