Show ; THE DIVINE LAW. History is being made very rapidly in Russia these days and no one can watch the kaleidoscopic events without being impressed by the fact that divine law applies to nations as well as individuals; that wrong-doing inevitably brings punishment, whether- the evil be the act of one man or of a government controlling millions. Further, the record rec-ord shows beyond cavil that Divine rule controls events in their -ultimate results, even when man, in his limited vision, fails to recognize th4 real Power that directs affairs. When the war broke out between Russia and Japan over what was ostensibly a question of Man-churian Man-churian control,- though it was really a struggle for domination in all Asia, none could see that the result would be the humiliation of a great world power, a shifting of the balance of influence in world affairs. . None could realize that from an obscure cause in the far east, would originate revo lution and riot and pillage, the overturning of a corrupt autocracy, and a complete change in governmental gov-ernmental forms. Yet the believer in God's mle must be convinced that back of man's weakness and corruption and selfishness, back of the riot and pillage, pil-lage, back of the reign of terror lies the Divine purpose to regenerate a nation and set the feet of the Russian people on the path to moral and civic righteousness. As in the case of individuals, the path upward will doubtless be full of thorns and obstacles ; there will be faltering and suffering, the sins of generations genera-tions await atonement, and the penitential road to higher things .will be strewn with bitterness, as it always is. But in the end, however distant the day, the light from on high will shine upon Russia, its people who have borne their grievous burdens so Jong and patiently will pave the way to a better heritage for their children and their children's children. Out of the strife and the toil will come God's reward. : i i |
