Show j 0GDEN, UTAH. j The fourth preparatory class (eighth grade) gave a genuine surprise party last Friday to the members of the faculty fac-ulty and the visiting class fortunate enough to be present. It was unlike the form surprise parties usually take, for the feast was an intellectual one. In imitation of their senior friends, they had prepared a paper, which they very Judiciously named "The Beehive," for they claim that they are keeping close to the ground, but the interested listeners listen-ers can prove that these busy little bees flew high enough to taste the nectar of sweet verse, as their honey-laden lives testify. All members of the class had contributed papers, but the appointed readers were the Misses K. Tyler, Twin Falls. Ida.; Mary Linnegar, Winnemuc-ca, Winnemuc-ca, New; Bertha Hansen, Pocatello, Ida., and Lavore Scott, Ogden, Utah. Clever stories, original sketches and timely suggestions to classmates were mingled with interesting comments on school happenings. The effort was creditable cred-itable in the extreme, a gratification to all present and a promise of excellent work for future years. The cover design de-sign was a picture of Whittier, the poet they have been studying, and whom, as they wisely expressed, they felt safe in associating with their labors, as he loved nature and all those things that were striving for the right. At the conclusion con-clusion of the reading, analysis of poems and appropriate selections were rendered with an ease and comprehension comprehen-sion that was commandable. We feel that the fourth preparatory class is indeed an active "beehive." WA hear much nowadays about the industrial side of education, but no part of a woman's training is more important import-ant than that which teaches her to use the needle. This necessary branch receives re-ceives due attention at Sacred Heart, where the mending classes are art classes also, and where the Saturday morning fancy work session is a Joy to the pupils. Dainty lacewo.rk Is made during this time, and the dream fabrics woven during the process take the form of surprises for loved ones. Indeed, during the stormy evenings it is a bright picture to see these young misses fashioning pretty designs for dear absent ab-sent ones. While amusing themselves, I they are learning one of the most womanly wo-manly of all the arts. Miss Loretto Malone.
