Show jPOSSIBILITY OF BLACK SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC i Warning has been issued by tho state health board that persons take cognizance of tho epidemic of black smallpox roported to have broken out In Denver and bocome vaccinated to provent any serious outbreak in this state Health authorities of Colorado In. formed Dr. T. B. Beatty, state health commissioner that 2C7 cases of smallpox have occurod since lata in September and that 74 httvo been fatal. Thlrty.two casos wero re. ported In September of which set en woro fatal. In October there ft ore ICO cases and 42 deaths nnd in the first wcok in November 7G cases wero roported with 25 deaths. Tho epidemic Is believed to bo a return of tho outbreak occuring thero last year which resulted in tho wholesalo vaccination of the Dcnvor citizens. The health authorities aro said to have reported to Dr. Beatty that not a slnglo person afflicted with tho pox this yoar has been re. ccntly vacclnatod, In tho opinion of tho Utah authorities thero Is a large percontago of tho residents of Utah who havo not boon vaccinated lately nnd should tako stops to provent IN outbreak of a pox plaguo In this state Tho health board urges that public health officials In each community provldo facilities for free vaccination to all applying and urge the people to take thlB means of lessening the danger from tho disease. Should the dlsoaso once gain a foothold In Utah there Is every reason to believe It will spread like wildfire. Dr. Beat. ty said. Tho local health board tore also urges tho people to be vaccinated, and to Immediately report to the board any symptoms of smallpox, It such should appear.
