The Tribune denied this story vehemently and assailed The Republican for ‘faking.' Later the ‘Tribune opened its eyes and learned the truth. President McCornick did not mislead the Tribune. Sane people in Salt Lake have regarded the course pursued by the Kearns paper as a most shocking, most depraved attempt to ruin a financial institution and besmirch the fair name of the federal judiciary. Those who are acquainted with the facts see in it only another effort of Tom Kearns to club W. 8. McCornick into the American party and to fasten upon the Mormon chureh the guilt of the Utab National bank robbery because some men of that faith worked in the bank at the time the theft was discovered Those who know that the Tribune never keeps any promise it makes have looked upon its treatment of the bank robbery as another scurrilous attempt to serve its own ends and to increase the sale of papers by pledging, from day to day, the only real reyelation. April and May have passed and the Kearns paper has not kept its promise to "name the criminals." By innuendo it has smeared libel Over President McCornick and others in the bank, and has smacked its chops over the luscious fact that it was fooling the people, and fooling them badly. If any newspaper in Salt Lake should have been friendly to President McCornick, it is the Salt Lake Tribune. Every newspaper man in Salt Lake conversant with the affair and every official of the bank, avd every detective working on the case, and every man on the Tribune knows that the Kearns paper lies-boldly, shamelessly lies-when it says that President McCornick reported the robbery voluntarily. He did report it to the Tribune, and if he hadn't done so that paper would have been "scooped" on the biggest story of the year. The Republican and the Herald knew of the robbery in a general way days before it was announced. The Republican literally begged for the story at the bank, but was put off from time to time because only bank officials knew the facts, and from them only could the story be le- home and murde red and promises the Democrats Talk AU Day authoritles valuable information with; ; ' Ass . He gave it up voluntarily * President MeCornick caused the Tribune to make a statement that the amount stolen was $42.000. Tribune, March 29.-Will the truth of the bank robbery ever be made public? Yes! © The Tribune's word for it. And if there is justice to be had in Utah; if the judges are unbiased, unbought or uninfluenced by political or ecclesiastical power, both principals and conspirators will some day go to jail. The Tribune is looking carefully into the entire transaction. It is making such headway as to feel confident of its ability to soon lay bare the crime AND NAME THB CRIMINALS. These will be named regardless of cost of investigation or character of the offenders. And the public will not be obliged to walt many days for important disclosures Tribune, Mareh 31.-Bscape is impossible. No crime of this character was ever lamg concealed. It will be impossible to forever hide it' For a time those directly interested in discovering the guilty ones could be numbered on one hand, Now not fewer than ten thousand men and women in Salt Lake are looking for some means to uncover the crime or to protect the guilly ones. And the guilty ones are known. The proof may not as yet be convicting, but it is convincing. The remaining facts will come to hand as certainly as night follows the day. And when they are given to the public by the Tribune they will be the substance of a bold and cleverly planned theft of a bank's funds, and of a conspiracy the like of which has not been uncoyered iu this ecrime-stained state. Tomorrow the Tribune expects to show how the Utah National was relieved of that vast sum of money. A few details only are wanting this morning. It will be the first time the public will have been given these particular facts.
