NewYork NewYork NewYork York City For on this day the gates to what New Yorkers Yorkers Yorkers York York- ers believe is the greatest international exposition of all time are being thrown open to thousands of visitors visitors the the vanguard of an estimated 20 millions who will see the New NewYork NewYork NewYork York Worlds World's fair before at it closes And significant of the changes that have taken place in a century century cen cen- cen tury and a half these visitors unlike those who thronged NewYork's New NewYork's NewYork's Yorks York's narrow streets for Washington's is The World of Tomorrow One of the theme spectacles of the fair is a model of designed by Henry DreyfusS Dreyfuss Drey Drey- fuss which deals in comprehensive sive fashion with the possibilities of practical working work ing farm with a farm house and buildings completely equipped with cattle horses chickens in intact fact tact every last thing one would expect to find on a farm evento eyen even to the flower and vegetable gar den near the house And all of it will be on less than one acre I Electricity will do the work on this farm efficiently and econom More More- than one hundred practical applications of electricity elec dec will be shown shown all all under I I working conditions The house is an attractive two two- story frame structure with a tile terrace On one side is a flower flow er en and vegetable garden apple trees and elms make a picture picture- esque setting for the house and I maples in the pasture lot provide provide pro pro- I vide convenient shade for the cattle At one end of the plot grouped for convenience and I efficiency are the silo sUo and barn and close by the workshop and horse shed at at the other end o of the plot the poultry house brooder brood brood- er house greenhouse hotbeds community packing house and the orchard The farm house is the hub hut around which practically all activity activity activity ac ac- on the farm centers centers par particularly the farm kitchen And L what a kitchen this is In it scientific sd- sd planning is evident in the location of each piece of equipment equipment equip equip- ment designed to conserve time labor and footsteps The barn is complete and up up- to date in every respect respect proper proper lighting and ventilation drinking cups the latest type stalls grinding grind ing and mixing of feed and pumping pump pump- ing lag of water On one side of the barn are eight tie stalls for milking cows on the other four box stalls with witha a pen of calves a cow and calf and two bulls These cattle kept in an electric hover brooder in a separate brooder house just outside of the main poultry house To complete the installation there will be an egg cleaner and grader and latest lates' type candler also scalding and waxing equipment for removing feathers in preparing broilers for foi market Across a small court from the poultry house is the community packing house In the center ii iia is isa isa a complete fruit cleaning anc and grading system electrically op op- crated Near the community packing house is an apple orchard with witha a stationary spray pump for spraying and maintaining the health of the trees At the enc end of the plot is a greenhouse so insulated that the only heat necessary necessary nee essary in addition to that supplied sup plied by electric heating lamps controlled automatically by thermostats thermostats ther ther- is the suns sun's rays through the glass of the greenhouse which is slanted to catch every bit o of sun Flowers out of season anc and an early start for garden plants are made possible with such a greenhouse Adjacent to the greenhouse are electric hotbeds hotbed which also insure the starting o of early garden plants for sprint plan
