Hunter Hunter Hunter Hun Hun- ter has Introduced a bill bUl In the State Legislature to give cities towns owns and counties local option In Inthe Inthe inthe the sale of liquor The bill bUl proposes proposes proposes pro pro- poses that on petition of one- one fourth of the registered voters In any city town or county an election election election elec elec- tion shall be held to determine whether liquor shall be sold withIn within with with- in the limits of that unit County is defined to Include only the rural areas outside cities and towns In the election the voters would simply register in favor of sale or against sale ff ft the majority voted against sale the state liquor control commission would be re required required required re- re to close its stores in the dry area The city town or county county county coun coun- ty would thereupon be allowed to enact ordinances ordinances prohibiting manufacture manufacture manufacture man man- or sale sate of liquor within its territory Mr Hunter is also helping to sponsor a bill but for the repeal of the average inventory means of assessing as assessing assessing as- as for property tax enacted by the 1937 legislature Rather than taking the average monthly inventory of the previous year yur as an assessing basis Mr Hunters Hunter's bill would require the tax commission to return to the practice practice practice tice of assessing on the basis of the Inventory at the beginning of the Uie year |
