Show Forests Yield Game, Timber, Pleasure Forest Ranger El Fred Scrgant reports that 2,154,690 board feet of timber were cut from tlie Preston Ranger District of the Cache National Natio-nal Forest last year by 140 farmers and six sawmill operators. This brought in $4,138.12 in revenue to the Government. In addition to the above, 700,000 board feet valued at $SO0.0O were removed from, the forest by 300 users for fuel and building purposes pur-poses under free use regulations. This includes 200,000 board feet of sawtimbor cut by the Oneida Stake for a new stake (house. Approximately 800,000 board feet of the sawtlmber cut was sold to the Anaiconda Company's phosphate phos-phate mine at Conda for mine timbers, tim-bers, by the Hubbard Bros. Milling Company. The Preston Ranger District furnished fur-nished summer forage for 2,832 cattle and horses for 13,897 animal months and 12,439 sheep for 31,725 animal months under paid permits Forage was exceptionally good the past year and production about 50 per cent above average Que to above normal precipitation. Most all of the stock came off the range in good flesh. Heaviest lambs were reported by Whitman and Thlrkle of Soda Springs. These were early lambs and averaged 91 pounds when sold the forepart of September. Septem-ber. Approximately 30,000 people made use of the receational resous-es resous-es on the Preston Ranger District 13,000 of this number made use of improved camp and picnic grounds for one day visits and 5000 for over night stays. J t Is estimated that the Preston Ranger District furnished 400 head of the deer kill during the past hunting season. The deer population popula-tion on the district is estimated between be-tween 1500 and 2000 head. To date they have not conflicted with the grazing of domestic stock. |
