Show I Record Begins Volume Thirty-Seven Thirty The Iron County Record today has reached the thirty-seventh thirty anniversary of the commencement of publication The paper when first issued was a small five column four page one with seventy-five seventy subscribers It was launched by Wm C. C Higgins of Salt Lake City who published it for a year selling out to Chas S. S Wilkinson and Dan Matheson 1 For a little over a year 1 Wilkinson and Matheson 1 published published pub pub- the paper Wilkinson acquiring fu full ownership at the end enel of the partnership Mr 1 Wilkinson for several years ears published it and enlarged it to toa toa toa a six column four page sheet and a 11 little tittle later made it an eight page Twenty-five Twenty years ago in order to keep up with the growth of the city and county it was necessary to enlarge the facilities for printing and a stock company was formed for this purpose In 1909 the present editor leased the Record from the Southern Utah Printing and Publishing Company and published it for four and one-half one years ears and at the conclusion of the lease commenced I publishing another paper The Observer which was published for three and one-half one years when it was consolidated with the Record i 4 In 1920 Alex H H. Rollo and Lafe McConnell Lafe McConnell purchased the interests in in- in interests i III held by Chas S. S Wilkinson and for one year published the i Record and the year Rollo and Sons purchased the entire entire entire en- en en en- tire holdings of the company and have since owned and published I the paper From a five fhe column four page weekly the Record has grown toan to an eight page weekly semi-weekly and is in better shape both from plant equipment and finance than ever before It has grown from a one-man one shop to one employing five people The growth and long life tife of the Record is due principally to the o loyalty of subscribers and advertisers and today it stands as the popular family newspaper of Southern Utah The present editor of the Record has been identified with the paper for the past 36 years as an lessee and owner and nd knows during all that time that the people of this section of j th the he State have be been n loyal tp the Record at all times The paper starts on its Hs thirty-seventh thirty year with confidence that u the patrons will be as loyal as heretofore and ana that mat support ort of ot a a. substantial nature will be given that will insure its publication weekly semi-weekly for the year 1931 The management of the paper takes takes' this means of thanking all aU Record ecord patrons for forthe the loyal support and wishes them a Happy and Prosperous New Year |
